BOOK REVIEW - CompTIA A+ 220-801 and 220-802 Authorized Cert Guide (3rd Edition)

From my review at Amazon.com:

I have been reading books authored and co-authored by Scott Mueller since 1998. His Upgrading and Repairing PCs books are a MUST HAVE reference for any hardware tech. The most current is the 20th edition - Publication Date: August 26, 2011
ISBN-10: 0789747103  ISBN-13: 978-0789747105.

I have personally used that series of books (each iteration, as it was published) for both knowledge enhancement and for reference information when I needed more detail or more precision information for any hardware subject matter at hand.

I am a certified trainer and have always told students in my A+ certification classes as well as my introduction to PC classes "if you are going to buy any additional companion book for this A+ certification class, be it for studying for the exam itself or for your reference down the road, get a book written by Scott Mueller - he is THE subject matter expert for all things relating to computer hardware."

As with the Second Edition of this book for the 220-701 and 220-702 series exams, having a CompTIA A+ certification guide written by this master for the updated release for the 220-801 and 220-802 exams is the best of both worlds - you have a comprehensive study guide for the certification exams as well as a solid reference book for future use.

Mark Edward Soper and David L. Prowse are the co-authors of this book and have more than 30 years experience in the information technology field by lending their knowledge and expertise to the guide.

The book covers all the topics in the 220-801 and 220-802 series exams which has been updated to include information on the Windows 7 operating system from Microsoft.

The CompTIA A+ 220-801 and 220-802 Authorized Cert Guide (3rd Edition) holds the CompTIA Authorized Quality Curriculum (CAQC) accreditation. What this means is that the training material has been "Authorized" under the CompTIA Authorized Curriculum Program.

Books and study guides that have this seal from CompTIA have been reviewed by industry experts and approved by CompTIA through the program and are considered the best resource for self-study for an exam.

The review and approval process confirms material offered meets exam objectives, language standards and necessary hands-on exercises and labs. Students, training organizations and educational institutions recognize the CAQC logo as the quality trademark of CompTIA certification materials.

The 18 chapters of the book are concisely broken down by topic and subject matter.

The opening section of each chapter titled "This chapter covers the following subjects", outlines all the topics that are going to be covered in the chapter.

At the end of each chapter there is a section titled "Exam Preparation Tasks" that outlines the most important topics in the chapter with the study element and the page reference where that topic was discussed for easier review.

Most chapters have some level of step by step walk throughs (showing the series of steps to complete a task) as well as "hands on labs" for you to do the walk through on your own in a practice scenario.

Additionally, there are chapter review questions for you to answer that gauge you on your understanding of the material presented in the chapter which include complete answers and explanations

The CD that accompanies the book includes 2 complete practice exams using the Pearson IT Certification Practice Test engine. The testing engine allows you to customize how you take the exam and offers the results of your practice test attempt by offering you an assessment about how you might be able to focus your study on any areas where you are weak or need more understanding of the topics and materials. The CD also contains beep codes, memory tables, and a glossary.

The CompTIA A+ 220-801 and 220-802 Authorized Cert Guide (3rd Edition) is a "must have" for anyone starting out on a new IT career and / or for anyone that has a need for a solid reference and resource guide for computer hardware.
